A clean, well-organized bathroom can offer a calming escape from the rest of the home. Achieving a comfortable atmosphere in such a space is challenging without sufficient storage. Popular methods encompass upgrading vanity cabinets or installing wall shelving, but these options can be unnecessarily costly.

Fortunately, a YouTube DIY video from Jay Munee offers the same stylish and practical advantages at a much lower price. Munee constructed a standalone bathroom cabinet from scratch, utilizing Dollar Tree picture frames and plastic storage bins.

Building the Cabinet

The crates act as the structural framework, while the frames provide the glass doors. This versatile piece can store various items, including linens, toiletries, and styling equipment. The final result appears quite elegant and modern.

To get started, pick up a handful of picture frames and crates that are roughly the same size. While Jay Munee DIY opted for Dollar Tree’s Special Moments Black Picture Frames and mini plastic crates, you can use something like the Sterilite Mini Crate from Walmart and pair it with 9-by-8-inch frames.

Customizing the Unit

Aside from the frames and crates, gather a few small hinges, E6000 adhesive, cable ties, gold spray paint, and optional extras like hooks to enhance utility. The creator built her storage unit with nine crates set up in a three-by-three layout.

However, you could easily alter the size of this project by adding or dropping a row or column of crates. Once you have decided on a crate arrangement, you will need to choose which of the crates will have a picture frame door attached to them. For those that will, glue your mini hinges along one side with E6000.

Next, take the glass out of the frames, remove any metal hardware, and secure the frames to the hinges using more E6000. Afterward, join the crate sides together in your selected pattern and clamp them until the glue cures.

The customization phase is where you get creative. Consider adding adhesive hooks, a toilet paper holder, a hand towel rack, or a hair dryer holder to the exterior surfaces before applying the gold spray paint. Once dry, reinsert the glass panels and install magnetic catches like the Jiayi Adhesive Cabinet Door Magnetic Catches for doors that open freely.

If you have young kids or pets, use wall anchors like the Booda Anti-Tip Furniture Anchors to secure the cabinet to the wall for safety. Finally, arrange the interior with jars, trays, and small organizers for a tidy and pleasing bathroom.
