Clerkenwell Design Week returns this May for three days of installations, product launches, and discussions about the future of workplace design. The festival runs from May 19 to 21, turning the London neighborhood into a center for architects, interior designers, and brands exploring new materials, technology, and sustainability in office spaces.
Smart pods and acoustic solutions lead this year’s trends
The Your Workpod Smart stands out as one of the event’s key innovations. This award-winning modular workspace provides privacy and productivity in open-plan offices. It reduces noise and integrates technology, offering a quiet space for focused work or virtual meetings. Built-in data insights help facilities managers optimize space usage, reflecting demand for flexible, hybrid-friendly environments.
Visitors can see the pod at Your Workspace’s showroom on Great Sutton Street, where it appears alongside Rhubarb Seating. The collection combines comfort with character, showing how furniture and technology adapt to modern work habits in both collaborative and quiet areas.
Acoustic comfort also takes priority, with brands like Autex Acoustics and Space Gen 2 introducing new products. Autex, a New Zealand-based company established in 1967, specializes in designer acoustic solutions made from recycled PET and renewable materials. Its products improve sound quality in offices, schools, and public spaces, supporting human-focused design.

Space Gen 2 launches its updated office pod range at the Silen x Welltek showroom. The new designs emphasize acoustic privacy while addressing physical comfort and sustainability. The pods remain functional and environmentally responsible, a theme repeated throughout the event.
Sustainability takes center stage
Ahrend, a Dutch furniture manufacturer, will highlight its Circular Hub at the festival. The service helps organizations reduce waste through refurbishment and remanufacturing. It provides a fully managed system for assessing, relocating, and repurposing office furniture, with detailed data reporting to track progress toward circular economy goals.
The company will host a panel discussion on sustainability during the event. Industry experts will explain how businesses can adopt more responsible practices. The conversation arrives as regulations and corporate commitments require measurable reductions in waste and carbon footprints.
Other brands also focus on eco-friendly materials. Amtico Spacia, a luxury vinyl tile collection, will display its latest designs, including 140 wood parquet options. The tiles feature enhanced acoustic and safety properties, reflecting a shift toward softer, natural tones in commercial interiors while maintaining durability for high-traffic areas.

Bisley will present The Layers of Design at its updated showroom. The installation examines how color, materials, and smart technology create adaptable and inclusive workspaces. A key feature is the BeSmart Innovation Hub, which demonstrates integrated tech for home and office environments.
Actiu, a Spanish furniture brand, explores neuroarchitecture—how design influences brain function and well-being. Its Mediterranean Lab showroom, part of the Life Friendly Spaces philosophy, will offer workshops and a keynote on the science behind effective workplace design. The method shows that office environments should support mental health as much as productivity.
The festival’s focus on sustainability and human-focused design points to a broader industry change. As hybrid work becomes standard, companies reconsider not just where people work but how spaces adapt to their needs. Modular furniture, acoustic solutions, and circular economy models play a role in this shift. The challenge lies in making these innovations accessible beyond high-profile events, reaching smaller businesses and less well-funded organizations.
For now, the event serves as a testing ground for ideas that may shape workplace design over the next decade. Registration for Clerkenwell Design Week is free, with most showrooms and installations located within walking distance in the EC1 postcode.
